The Humming Bird’s Nest is a unique place for children to build on creativity in small groups in low sensory environment, with a variety of materials, from light tables to sewing machines, along with all the basics, paint clay, and yarn.

The space is created by Chanda an Evanston mom and experienced at studio teacher, creating an environment that is built on true creative expressions for children.

Support and direction are guided by the group or individual. Children may arrive with ideas they want to pursue or choose to explore inspiration found in the available materials. The teacher’s role is to:

  • Support each child’s idea, offering guidance tailored to their goals and skill level.

  • Maintain a clear, organized workspace so materials are accessible

  • Help students break projects into manageable steps and set realistic timeframes.

  • Keep projects moving toward completion while allowing room for creative exploration and revision.

This approach balances child-led creativity with structured support, enabling students to pursue meaningful projects within the class timeframe.
